Map Room in Benton Park

The building on the NW corner of Lemp and Withnell at 1901 Withnell has always caught my attention. It is a rather interesting looking building, but the thing that always struck me as odd about the building is that it has looked like it was going to be made into a restaurant for about two years. But there were never any “coming soon” signs and nobody ever open up shop. Just when I had written the matter off, I drove by the building this afternoon to see that it is actually going to be used for a commercial use. As a coffee and wine house called “The Map Room.”

After a bit of digging I managed to find a website for the business. It appears to be rough at this point and without much information, but I’m sure it will be updated as the opening nears. I can find no leads to when that will be exactly, but I would assume within the next couple of months.

It looks like a pretty nice setup and I wish them well. That being said, I must admit that I am a bit disappoint and worried about the glut of similar business now in the area. At the moment, there is already a coffee house (Benton Park Cafe) only a block away from this location and another(Mississippi Mud House) only a few blocks to the SW. Add The Map Room to this lineup, along with the upcoming Foam at Jefferson and Cherokee and you have a lot of coffee houses. Hopefully there is room for all as this every addition to the restaurant landscape in Benton Park will continue to enrich the area. I’ll guess we’ll find out soon.

    Matt,

Just went thru your story referencing the Map Room. This is seriously outdated. I haven’t read the other entries, but for those who enjoy your website; it might be a consideration to eliminate or update your entries.

I appreciate your hard work and passion, and I have a feeling you are doing this almost or entirely by yourself.

    Sincerely,

    L.A. Tapscott

I appreciate your input, but there are actually more recent entries about the Map Room that are up to date. When in doubt, always look in the “Related Stories” section in the story footer. I wish I had time to go back and edit stuff like this, but it is hard enough finding the time to write the stories in the first place, let alone revisit them.
