The intersection of S 39th Street and Shaw Boulevard is a fairly prominent corner in the St. Louis neighborhood of Shaw. Handling a good chunk of the neighborhood’s traffic, the fact that the buildings on all four corners have historically been in bad shape, made for a poor first impression upon entering the area. Thankfully, a few years ago, Eichelberger Property Management rehabbed the duplex on the SW corner and the 6-family on the NE corner of the intersection, which gave the section quite the face-lift. Unfortunately, the notorious mixed-use property at 1819 S 39th St and the half-finished rehab on the SE corner have prevented the intersection from really turning it around. Change is in the wind, however.
I am happy to report that the long-idle rehab of the 4-family at 3866 Shaw Blvd. is now back underway. Crews seem to be focusing a lot on finishing up the exterior as you can see from the progress pics below. No word yet on the completion date, but the work quality seems to be pretty good and all indications are that the finished product will be quite attractive. Once this place wraps up construction, the gradual improvement of Shaw Boulevard will take another important step in the right direction. That will just leave everyone’s favorite convenience store at 1819 S 39th St keeping the intersection from perfection. Best not hold your breath on that one though.
