While much of the construction at the Georgian (formerly City Hospital) has been complete for years, the project has been slowly growing since it began in the mid-2000′s. Nestled between the Lafayette Square and Soulard neighborhoods, the complex is very visible and has huge potential. Despite this, while most of the 104 condos at the site are now complete, (A number of condos are currently available for sale), the building does not draw as much attention as the developer Gilded Age might have hoped. That might have something to do with the fact that there is little to draw non-residents into the facility.
That could be changing though, with the recent announcement that a new rock climbing wall, fitness gym, and two restaurants will soon be opening in the complex. Operating under the name Climb So ILL, the new business will include several rock climbing walls and a bouldering wall, along with 24-hour fitness center, two restaurant spaces and a banquet area. The gym and climbing walls will be opening in the old City Hospital Power Plant in mid-March with the restaurants soon to follow.
