Maintenance Laborer

The Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing general maintenance and assisting the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Technicians with repairs and rehab work to multi and single-family properties that are primarily located in South City. This position will require frequent driving to properties in order to address maintenance issues as well as using personal hand tools. Large tools and equipment are provided by St. Louis Real Estate Society. Opportunity for future advancement to higher paying position with growth of skillset.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Field Work
    • General Maintenance – Perform routine tasks to maintain properties in good working order including trash removal & hauling, job site clean-up, lawn care, snow/ ice removal, and other common maintenance items.
    • Repairs & Rehab Work
      • Perform minor repairs such as painting, drywall, roofing, flooring, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work
      • Use manual tools such as hammers, saws, and screwdrivers
      • Purchase and deliver supplies to job sites
    • Post notices, signage, lockboxes, etc. at properties
    • Assist other technicians in the field with repairs
    • Attend occupancy and utility inspections as needed
    • Operate motorized equipment including power tools and lawn equipment
  • Administrative Work
    • File proper paperwork per company protocols
      • Complete repair reports
      • Track hours, mileage, and supplies
      • Manage receipts and other required documents
    • Attend company meetings

    • Must be dependable, trustworthy, and able to follow directions
    • Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision and to complete projects in a timely manner
    • Professionalism and a courteous attitude are a must
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English
    • In good physical condition, is alert, demonstrates manual dexterity and good balance; Is able to work under the following conditions:
      • Work requires alert individuals with good balance and physical strength
      • Work during inclement weather conditions; could be exposed to extreme cold and heat, noise and dust from construction operations depending upon project site
      • Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds of material and up to 90 pounds of material with assistance, if requested
      • Frequently walking, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing
  • Education & Experience
    • Required: Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent
    • Preferred: Some background/ experience with lawncare, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, hvac, rehab/ renovations or other construction-related repairs
    • Bonus: Familiarity with South St. Louis City
    • Bonus: Previous multi or single family turn or maintenance experience
  • Additional Requirements
    • Required: Valid MO driver’s license
    • Required: Personal vehicle that complies with local & state laws (plates, insurance, etc.)
    • Required: Smart phone with internet, photo & texting capabilities
    • Required: Employee to provide own set of manual tools to include (but not limited to): tool box, hammer, tape measure, screwdriver set, standard wrench set, plier set, channel lock pliers, two foot level, pipe wrench, crescent wrench, safety goggles, ear plugs, hardhat, and respirator. Large tools and equipment are provided by the company.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Pay: Approximately $11-$13 hourly, depending on experience
  • Schedule: Exact work schedule is to be determined but work will primarily take place during regular business hours from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Hours: Approximately 40 hours a week
  • Mileage Reimbursement: $.545 per recorded mile (for “street legal” vehicle) for approved trips
  • Insurance: Health & Vision Insurance benefits

  • Employee is responsible for covering:
    • All vehicular expenses including service & repairs, insurance, etc.
    • All mobile phone-related expenses
