It seems the end is near for the former American Eagle Credit Union (which was a Taco Bell before that) at 2101 S Jefferson Avenue and neighborhing vacant buildings at 2123-27 S Jefferson Avenue . Located on the southwest corner of Jefferson and Russell, these Fox Park neighborhood building will soon be demolished. Purchased by the South Side Day Nursery (SSDN), the sites and neighboring parking lot will eventually be home to the SSDN’s new early childhood education building.
SSDN is a licensed and accredited early childhood program serving children and families of South St. Louis since 1886. No word yet on when construction is going to break ground, but St. Louis City and Missouri State officials have already signed-off on demolition and other project specifics. The Fox Park Neighborhood Association has also given it’s blessing. Seems a shame to waste those nice looking buildings at 2123-27 S Jefferson, but in a town fond of tearing down historic buildings for cookie-cutter developments, why should we be surprised. Pics of the these properties on death-row can be seen below.
